If the name Denata means something to you, then you're starting to get old like I did long ago. The band initially started back in 1998, but broke up for the usual reasons, and then the old corpse got reanimated back in 2014 by mastermind Tomas Andersson and put out a couple of splits before releasing this EP, Corpse, earlier this year. Apparently, this is just Tomas teaming up with his drummer/buddy Ponta to blast a bunch of angry, punky music for fun, and if nothing else, I felt like I got in on the fun as well. Musically, this is reminiscent of other punky, angry acts like Abscess and even Carnivore, though definitely more death and thrash than those two were. The music is loud, energetic, messy, riddled with attitude, and often sounds spontaneous, and that's what all punk-inspired music should be like in my book, so glazing that with good old-fashioned death/thrash aggression is a no-brainer here, often literally. At only 12 minutes, you don't get a lot to go on, but your neck muscles will be busy the entire time, whether it be with the rawest, punkiest track "In Salvation," the surprisingly structured and melodic title track, or the partying, mosh pit stirring insanity of the rest. Short, sweet, and to the damn point. See below for more reviews... ↓ |
