A Warrior's Way is the second album from Sweden's Evilon, a band that plays very melodic and folk-influenced death metal. I almost hesitated to call this death metal as only the vocals, an understandable, mid-range, raspy growl, really fit that genre. There are a few folk elements, mainly in some melody lines as I don't hear any folk instruments, and they are unobtrusive in general. The songwriting mostly focuses on traditional metal riffs and melodies with a strong epic vibe most of the time. I found it a very listenable album, even though death metal isn't my genre of choice, but I didn't run across too many hooks that hung around in my brain after the album ended, either. Nevertheless, A Warrior's Way is solid, especially if you enjoy some harsh vocals with your melodic music. |
