This is—surprise—old-school death metal rooted in the late '80s and (very) early '90s, so you know what to expect for the most part: heavy, pounding, and relatively close to thrash metal. Horrifier add a little spice by occasionally slowing it down to near-doom levels and blanketing the listener in a dark, horror-like (uhuh) atmosphere. Crushing stuff that you can't get up from, and it does drag on for a while, so this album is not all about headbanging and slamming into walls or moshing like crazy at a live show. The growls are rough, I feel pain in my throat just listening to that guy. :) Horrid Resurrection does have its much faster moments to help keep the blood flowing. This is the debut album for this young band (formed in 2022 and apparently made of young members), but it certainly sounds like the product of a more experienced band. Good stuff. |
