I found Tower Hill's Fighting Spirits demo on Bandcamp a while back and, based on the music it contained, was not surprised when they signed with No Remorse Records for their debut album, Deathstalker. Tower Hill joins the horde of new bands playing traditional, epic heavy metal inspired by the US metal sound from the early '80s. I find the guitars to be a real strength for this band as Deathstalker is crammed full of excellent leads and well-executed twin harmonies. From the jump, it's a guitar lover's dream of great tone, catchy riffs, and squeals aplenty. The vocals are a mix of solid, mid-range shouting and high-pitched screams that sound a lot like the late Eric Wagner (Trouble). It can sometimes be a bit jarring when the singer really lets loose and it might not be everyone's cup of tea, but the music makes the investment worth it. It was smart to include the three tracks from the demo ("The Claw is the Law," "Fighting Spirits," and "Antigone") on Deathstalker as these are among the best songs in Tower Hill's currently small repertoire, but other cuts like "Port of Saints" and "Deathstalker" also kick ass. Tower Hill is a band that fans of classic albums from Manowar and Omen as well as current acts like Blood Star and Visigoth should be checking out.
