Very dark black metal from Belgium here, and you'll sure need that furnace running because this album is wrapped in a cold, chilling atmosphere. I'm reminded a bit of mid-90s raw and minimalistic black metal, though this is more refined and not nearly as messy, but that doesn't take anything away from the brutal vibe that comes off the songs, whether they're the faster ones or when the band dips into a much slower pace, almost getting into blackened doom territory, but not quite. I like how the band balanced the faster and slower material here, it kind of catches you off guard, all without breaking the flow of the album. Powerful, sinister, bleak black metal to make sure the sun doesn't shine on a rainy day. |
