Extinkt are a Polish crossover thrash band who've been around a little over a decade despite having only two full-length albums. Guess they needed to recuperate in between albums, as Trinity Redux has all the punky energy and violence of a drunken bull charging down the streets of Barcelona. A lot of the tracks here are highly aggressive and lean on thrash, particularly on "Redemption Song" and its Kill 'Em All-esque riff (you'll know it when you hear it), but you also get more rocking numbers like "Battle Song" and "From Before," and even a more multifaceted and (for lack of a better word) melancholic approach when they slow down on "Fed With Disease." What holds it all together, I think, is the punky vocal approach of singer/bassist Tom, who goes a long way in making their anger and enthusiasm sound as genuine as it was when the old guard of the '80s were slamming beers down their throats before smashing the bottles over posers' heads. It's short, it's angry, and it's a lot of fun, and what else do you really want from your crossover? |
