I got this tape shortly after I review Destin Cruel. Right off the bat, besides the name, there's nothing here that hints at it being live—no crowd sound, no interaction—other that the very raw sound, and that's really what makes it kick some motherfucking ass. The cassette booklet is minimal and this looks like a mix of live and demo/rehearsal tracks. Cruel Fate is already a band that plays it raw and straightforward on their full-length albums, and this goes beyond that. The guitars are especially crunchy and razor-sharp, the sound just slice through the ears, oozing pure fucking death metal that takes no prisoners. Raw, dirty, old-school, putrid death metal is what Cruel Fate are all about, and it's truer here than on their studio albums. As much as I love those, the sound here is just fucking addictive when you feel like listening to out-of-control metal with a live, unfiltered feeling. Essential. As a side note, listening to the cassette, for some reason there's a lot of empty space on both sides, and the sides are not labelled, which is kind of annoying. Also, on what I think is side B, the sound is a little uneven at times (yes, my tape deck works fine). But that's nitpicking at this point because when the music starts, you're in for some flooring death metal. Fuck. Yes. See below for more reviews... ↓ |
