This is a really strong follow-up to this band's debut from a few years ago. I remember thinking that was a pretty good album, but this one is a leap forward. Rather than the highly orthodox sounds of Cold Winds Cleave the Earth, this one draws a lot more on Finnish melody and even some Slavonic Pagan Metal elements. The recording is better, with less obvious echo and more depth to the sound, the upfront guitars are aggressive but still have a lot of layers to them. I hear a bit of Thy Serpent in the melodies, and bits of bands like Woodtemple or Runespell. This is not breaking down any boundaries, but it is just rock-solid all around.
