What can I say about Cannibal Corpse that hasn't already been said likely a thousand times or more? This band continues to put out quality, hard as fuck hitting death metal on a consistent basis. It's been over 30 years and they're still right at or near the top of the festering heap of best death metal bands going today. Chaos Horrific is proof of that statement.

Chaos Horrific doesn't break new ground in any way for death metal, but man, I tell you, Cannibal Corpse know how to keep you interested. This band is a prime example of how lineup changes can improve a band. Re-adding Rob Barrett to the band in '05 helped Kill become their most explosive album in a lot of years. Adding Erik Rutan a few years ago has freshened things up again.

In my opinion, this band is hitting it everywhere correctly. There are endless catchy riffs and sections. The more consistent addition of thrash metal influence has really added to that catchiness, but sacrificed zero brutality. There's more variety in the guitar solos than maybe there ever has been in the history of the band. Just listen to the leads in "Summoned for Sacrifice." There's a melodic element in that song that has never been present before. Talk about a breath of fresh air.

The production, especially when it comes to guitars, is probably the best it has ever been. They know how to get that combination of heaviness and clarity better than anyone in death metal. Listen to the beginning of "Blood Blind." That's some of the heaviest guitar I've ever heard in my life, but all elements around that guitar stand out so well still. Paul's drums pop hard and come through perfectly. Alex's bass is felt so well at all times and comes through at all the perfect occasions.

Vocally, Corpsegrinder sounds as good as he's ever been. His voice is powerful, present, and full of character and variety. He bellows through those fucking speakers; coming through with clarity of pronunciation that is rarely heard in the entire genre.

I highly recommend Chaos Horrific; especially to those old-school fans who abandoned their Cannibal Corpse fandom a long time ago. This band is still operating at the highest level in the genre and is the flag bearer for death metal in North America. Absolute legends.
