Third album from this offbeat US band, who play punishing Death Metal intermixed with unusual, avant-garde elements that remind me of Necrophagia, or even late-period Gorguts. You get crushingly heavy death riffs and a rather hollow rasping vocal attack mixed with upfront basslines and lurching, off-time drumbeats, broken up by weird melodic flourishes that sound techy rather than actually being technical. This is always changing things up, so every song has a zillion little parts and there is always something new happening. It means the songs don't have a lot of individual identity, but it also means the album as a whole is always interesting. You don't know what's coming next, but it is all good stuff. |
