With a mouthful of a name like that, you might not be able to spell it, but you will definitely remember this band. Avowedly in the South American tradition of subterranean and slightly weird Death Metal, this has some similarities to The Chasm as well as more direct stuff like Demigod. There's a highly atonal style here, worked into wringing out some involved and strange riffs, with much more a focus on melody than either heaviness or speed. This is a layered and complex sound, without the airless, clickety-click kind of technicality that would imply. In fact the drums are not very prominent in the mix at all. It makes for a unique and interesting approach and makes this much more about an evil feel and dirge-like mood than the aggression that Death Metal usually trades in. Definitely a band to check out if you like your Death Metal underground and atypical. |
