The first thing that hit me with this album is that it sounds sinister from the start, and that feeling never goes away. This is death metal that's big on atmosphere, and it's not all pretty birds and flowers. The music is crushingly heavy whether they're playing pedal to the metal or slowing down to a chilling doomy pace. Things can get pretty brutal, but Impetus of Death never descends into chaos; it's all rather polished playing, but fear not, this does not water the music down in any way. Some parts are more straightforward brutal-ish death metal, but it's when the cold, horrifying atmosphere is front and centre that Corpsessed shine with their material. There's a hell of a lot going on here and this is one of those albums that benefits from multiple listens to explore its many layers. See below for more reviews... ↓ |
