Since I liked this band's latest album, Showdown, so well, I decided to go looking for some of their older stuff. This was actually their third album from back in 2021, and it's not any different stylistically than Showdown—which means it is really cool. This band gets a lot of comparisons to Slough Feg, with the galloping riff style and the oddball sci-fi lyrical themes. If singer Sean Buchanan sounded at all like Mike Scalzi the resemblance would be even stronger, but he is much more a classic Euro-styled clean singer. He's good, but I almost wish this band had a more idiosyncratic vocalist to fit with their more offbeat style. As it is, this works a very Riot kind of vibe, with the bright, clean vocal lines and the high-quality lead work. Bottom line is, if you liked their last one, you will like this too. |
