Can't say I've heard of a metal collaboration between Brazil and Finland before, but here comes 3rd War Collapse to show there's a first time for everything. Rather than any of the expected sounds from their respective scenes, these boys are all about brutal, technical, mildly slamming death metal that follows in the bloodied footsteps of Dying Fetus, Deeds of Flesh, and Cannibal Corpse. This kind of sound requires some real skill to pull off, but everyone here is a seasoned professional from acts like Inferia, Anarkhon, and Akinetopsia, so technical proficiency is definitely not something anyone lacks here. From Chris Martinez's deep guttural vocals and skull-crushing guitar playing to Juan Azavedo's punishing 4-string acrobatics to Kalle Lindfor's wrist cramping skin bashing, everyone knows their craft and goes at it with ferocity and conviction. The songwriting is pretty solid too, containing enough fresh ideas and variation to keep things from going stale, though that also makes the compositions rather busy, sometimes too busy to properly follow for how brutal and unrelenting everything is. Still, the skill involved is too much to ignore and generally enough to overcome a few details getting lost in the mix, so fans of more brutal tech death will want to give this a listen. All others have been warned, and those weak of heart may not survive the 3rd War Collapse. |
