From the promo kit, I was expecting this to be "just" hard rock and almost skipped it, but as it turns out Smoking Snakes is slightly hard-rock-tinged heavy metal, and even though they don't quite sound like W.A.S.P., I can't help but think of that band when listening to Danger Zone; it has that kind of crazy youthful energy that early W.A.S.P. albums had. It's very upbeat and catchy heavy metal, sometimes a little light, but packing enough crunch to satisfy the traditional heavy metallers among us—at least those who don't mind the party vibe that reverberates throughout the album. It's the kind of stuff you can put on to get the party rocking. They sometimes get heavier and darker, reminding me a little bit of very early Twisted Sister. Get the air guitar out and get your throat ready for some singalong—it's the kind of album that has no filler and just rocks from beginning to end. |
