As soon as I saw the band and album name, I knew this was going to be black/thrash. I like it when that happens. ;) Unsurprisingly, there isn't really anything you haven't heard before on this album if you've heard a lot of black/thrash before. Whether that's a good or bad thing, for me, is whether the band can deliver the goods or not, and not so much any kind of originality. Fortunately, Devastator pretty much slay throughout this album, with speedy, pounding and catchy blackened thrash complemented by strong, powerful vocals that add a lot of punch to the music. Where the album surprised me a little bit is that the band have incorporated some melodic passages here and there in what is otherwise a blasting onslaught of thrashing destruction. The album could have done without it, but it does help keep things interesting. If speedy, raw black/thrash that gets you headbanging and taking all your air instruments out of the closet is your thing, you'll definitely want to check out Conjurers of Cruelty.
