This is the second album from German thrashers EXA, who have existed for about a decade and still operate as a completely independent entity, without a label. Obviously a product of the more "clean" Thrash sounds of the '80s, this definitely has echoes of Destruction, Kreator, Tankard, etc. The riffs are pretty good, and the guitar sound is nice and heavy, but the songwriting is highly derivative, and it's not fun enough to overcome that. The vocals of guitarist Tom "Exa" Tschernig have the common problem of Thrash vocals in that there are too many vocals, and while they are not bad, they are mixed upfront and cover the music to the point where you wish he would stop so you could hear the rest of the band. This is decent, but not really exciting. |
