Beneath the Crimson Prophecy is the second full-length album by Germany's Diabolic Night, a band categorized on Metal Archives as black/speed metal. That description will certainly get you in the ballpark as this band plays fast and sings about dark topics. I find their take to be more black than speed, with ferocious, pounding drums, low, howling vocals and sawing guitars that border on tremolo picking in the way the riffs are executed. I like the addition of what sounds like kettle drums on cuts like "Arktares has Fallen" and "Vicious Assault" that really enhances the dark, warlike atmosphere. There's nothing in the songwriting that won't be familiar to fans of black/thrash/speed metal, so I don't think this band stands out from the crowd much at this point, but they do what they do with plenty of murderous intent. Diabolic Night reminds me more of Midnight than Bewitcher, but at the end of the day, Beneath the Crimson Prophecy is full of fast, evil metal you can bang your head to.
