It's been a while since I listened to Job for a Cowboy, and for cause, as this is their first album in 10 years. Apparently, the odd name is so no one else would pick the same name. I think that's a safe bet.

Too much old-school death metal being released in recent years, and you want something fresh? Moon Healer is one of those albums that will do the trick. Forget about the band playing deathcore, that was very early on (first EP). On Moon Healer, Job for a Comboy play a modern and rather technical brand of death metal with very intricate twists that kind of make it sound weird at times. I'm not feeling much in terms of heaviness or even speed on the album. There's a lot of guitar wizardry that's very akin to what you hear on modern technical or progressive death metal albums, so this is not exactly the kind of stuff one is bound to headbang or even mosh to, but rather for those who like their music busy and different. It feels kind of uneven at times, which is not unusual in the subgenre, and you really need to pay attention to keep up with what's going on here. There's a lot of melody as well, though that doesn't really tone down the overall aggressiveness. Overall, an interesting album. I like my death metal more straightforward than this, but those people more into the technical and progressive subgenres should find something to dissect here.
