A new album by Greek thrashers Suicidal Angels is always welcome in this house. Profane Prayer is filled with the relatively clean thrash that the band has accustomed us to, this one often reminding me of Slayer around the year 1990 mixed with post-2000 Kreator. As expected, this is well played and fine-tuned thrash, but I found that it feels kind of "safe" as there's nothing especially remarkable (other than good songs all around), the band largely playing it by the numbers and not sticking their neck out to find new ways to kick your ass and beg for mercy (which they still do). It's good while it's on and there are plenty of headbanging moments, but once it's over I don't remember all that much of it. It's not necessarily an album I'd think of putting on first when Suicidal Angels comes to mind, but it's sure to get the occasional spin. See below for more reviews and interviews... ↓ |
