Yes, another death/thrash band, but this one sounds different. Hetrem play progressive death/thrash and, in the nearly 59-minute running length, treat the listener to quite a bit of different sounds, from acoustic with clean vocals all the way to machine-gunning thrash with raucous death growls. The overall sound is pretty clean, their music kind of polished compared to many other bands playing the style (progressive or not). Those fast, machine-gunning parts are where I like them the most, especially with some sound effects thrown in and it's almost like the vocals are surfing the waves of the music, kind of addictive and pretty much what stuck to my mind the most. There's a dark atmosphere throughout, almost war-like at times, and the vocal delivery adds another dimension to that. Some parts feel a little too simplistic (for lack of a better word) and almost sound out of place, but those are few and far between. If you've found death/thrash has started to sound stale because of the overcrowding, Monster at Heart may be the remedy you've been looking for. |
