Pestilence is the second album for this Italian band going by the name Draconicon. Neoclassical power metal is the name of the game, and this album is solid example of how to do the style the right way. The elements you want are represented from the speed to the catchy melodies to the songwriting that doesn't skimp on the pomp and grandeur. Mainly high, clean singing is augmented with occasional death shouts that belt out lyrics that are appropriately fantastical. If there's a downside to Pestilence, it is that it doesn't push the boundaries of neoclassical power metal, not even a little, with safe, predictable songwriting that fails to produce one or two truly catchy numbers. On the other hand, Draconicon do what they do with skill and verve, making it difficult to find any faults to speak of. Fans of Orden Ogan, Blind Guardian, Ancient Bards, and the like are the target audience and should find Pestilence enjoyable.
