Looks to me like label Les Acteurs de l'ombre Productions have been on the hunt for first-rate bands, as I've been pretty lucky with the stuff they've released in the past couple of years. Corpus Diavolis is a black/death band, though on this album they come off more like an epic atmospheric black metal band. When I say atmospheric, I mean it. It is that creepy, malevolent, sometimes horror-like atmosphere that steals the show here. The vocals are notable and contribute a lot to that atmosphere, sometimes a semi-clean style sounding downright evil, sometimes like those satanic chants that some old movies banked so much on, creepy and nightmarish stuff right there. Musically this is dark and melodic and it's the slower parts that come off sounding the darkest, with the faster parts kicking you out of your trance and making you fear your impending doom. A band that knows its craft and how to blend many sounds for maximum run-for-your-life effect. See below for more reviews... ↓ |
