I saw a lot of people getting excited about this band, but personally they not quite up my alley. Doesn't mean the album isn't any good. ;) Dissimulator play a rather modern and even somewhat experimental form of thrash with some death metal leanings with, of course, some winks at the old school and they even get a little Voïvodesque a couple of times with some weird stuff that makes you want to put on some Voïvod next. The mostly sci-fi themes don't hurt with the association either. That may actually be why some people are going all in on this album. Or not. Anyway... The vocals are all over the place, with a harsh death/thrash style, some cleaner singing (again reminding me of later Voïvod), and even some shrieking that's not too far removed from black metal. Musically it's technical and experimental thrash, also reminding me of progressive thrash though I wouldn't want to paint them in that corner as there's so much going on here, this stuff is all over the map—from the weirdest stuff down to just plain straightforward thrash with air-guitar-inducing barebones riffage. There's a lot going on here, and Lower Form Resistance is an album that strongly benefits—and deserves—a good number of listens to take it all in as it slowly exposes its layers and complexity. This is certainly recommended if you've overdosed on "old-school (death)thrash revival" and are looking for thrash that colours way outside the lines.
