Every now and then, I find a blind spot in our database of album reviews that screams to be filled, so let's talk about Belgium's legendary thrash act Cyclone. They only released two well-regarded albums during their run from 1981 to 1993, and even after reforming in 2019, they've yet to release anything else in that time, so I have no idea if they're just going to tour playing old material or take another stab at it over 30 years after the fact. What I do know is that their debut, Brutal Destruction, totally fucking rules.

Say I was to take the raw hatred of Kreator's debut and mix it with the more involved and epic style early Destructor gravitated towards. That's this album in a nutshell, serving as a perfect split between American and European thrash across all 8 tracks that are filled with enthusiasm and energy to spare. Everything from the killer guitar work to the Phil Rind meets Dave Overkill vocals of Guido Gevels is just top-notch classic thrash, and songs like "Fighting Fatal," "In the Grip of Evil," and "Incest Love" are about as good as it can get for thrash. I'd say more, but when it comes to old school thrash, you either get it or you don't, and Cyclone definitely had it as they plowed through everything in their path like an ever-growing hurricane. If you somehow missed this band when they were first around or simply never got around to their debut, now is as good a time as any to start digging for this relic of the Golden Age.
