Unite and Conquer is the third album from the U.S.'s Immortal Guardian, a band that plays a prog-tinged power/thrash style of metal. I hear a lot of influences in their songs from high-pitched, Halfordian screams on "Ozona" to ear-pleasing melodies on "Southern Rain" that evoke Angra. "Rise of the Phoenix" possesses progressive keyboard and lead guitar work that reminds me of Threshold while "Unite and Conquer" is straight-up Euro power metal in the Primal Fear mold (Ralf Scheepers contributes some vocals to the album). While I hear all these elements in Immortal Guardian's sound, they have blended them all together into their own sound, an amalgam to be sure, but their own, nonetheless. That's a direct result of their playing skills, especially singer Carlos Zema who has the perfect voice for this sort of music, and the songwriting which, while perhaps not particularly original, is still quite good. Unite and Conquer is a fun album to listen to, if you like power metal with thrash and prog elements and flows well. Kudos to Immortal Guardian for hitting what they were aiming for.
