Fuck yeah, this is what I'm talking about! After enjoying their debut full-length, I decided to track down Deceitome's latest release, the 2019 EP Flux of Ruin, and gosh be damned, these boys have quickly stepped up as real contenders in their scene. This is still a band all about the Swedish sound of the '90s, but on this release, they recruited vocalist Anders Melts of the legendary Estonian act Forgotten Sunrise, whose Craig Pillard meets John McEntee gutturals give the band a heaviness and overall evil vibe they didn't have before, most notably on the eerie, doomy "Miasthmatic Breed." I'd say more, but this kind of violent ode to tradition very much speaks for itself, and it does so with a drooling mouthful of viscera as it spews it over the microphone to remind you what fucking death metal is supposed to sound like. In a scant two releases, Deceitome have convinced me they are a band with the potential to break big in their scene, and I'm definitely going to keep an eye on them from here on out.
