This Italian band named after the famed leader of the Mongols at the beginning of the thirteenth century (minus the "h" in Genghis) has been around since 2012 and Masters of My Sins is their second EP (of three) and follows their third full-length album, 2022's Possessed by the Moon. I can't remember much about that album even though I gave it a decent review, but I may have to go back and check out if I missed something because this EP leaves something to be desired. The songwriting is more trad metal than power, with none of the speed or flowery keyboards (on Masters of My Sins keys are relegated to background support) you might expect. The riffs are decent and the guitar tone sufficiently crunchy, but the songs are utterly generic with no individuality or charisma. The vocals are gruff and gritty but the singer kind of drifts around the right notes on the choruses of "The Seventh Heaven" and "Nightmare," sometimes in key but more often flat. It isn't awful but it is hard to ignore. If you like crunchy Euro metal with gravelly vocals (Running Wild, Gun Barrel, etc.), you might find something here you like (some of the guitar work is solid) but don't set your expectations high.
