I've been getting a lot of very brutal death metal from Indonesia, so it's refreshing to be getting this. Not that Nokturnal sound like elevator music, but it's not the barrage of noise I usually run into. The death metal here incorporates some melody, though not nearly enough to throw it into some kind of melodic death metal category. It's fast and pounding, with demented screams (more than growls here) and a malevolent, menacing atmosphere that sets the songs apart a little bit as, musically, this has been done before. But Nokturnal do this right and this is a solid album through and through. |
