Glad to finally see a full-length album from Reversed as I really liked their 12" Widow Recluse from 2018. The band plays a black and death metal hybrid with a healthy dose of savage thrash to glue everything together. Wildly Possessed is like a speeding tank ramming and crushing everything in its path, but with laser precision. The vocals are demented, pure evil that will make the neighbours put up a for-sale sign if you crank this up too high. The music is fast, fast, fast and pounding with a malevolent vibe that's not so much the result of atmosphere as it is the violence of the riffs and the maniac drumming that overwhelm the senses. This stuff is way up there with the big names that pioneered the genre, and then some. My only beef is that in the last 70 seconds or so of "Hungry Graves," we get a very melodic female (sounds female anyway) choir-style chant that, while it sounds good in itself, I find totally clash with the rest of the album and sounds so out of place, it hurts. But all is forgiven (until next time) when "Beneath Evil Eyes" continues onto the aural onslaught so savagely interrupted. Minor nitpicking, and your mileage may vary. Wildly Possessed is a gem in the genre and I'm certainly curious to see if the Reversed will be able to top this on the next album. |
