How's that for a catchy band name? With a name like and with an EP titled Surgical Vicissitude, it's pretty obvious that we're in for some brutal death metal. This new band plays it pedal to the metal and, unlike a lot of bands with the "brutal" suffix in the genre, they don't sound like a mess. The growls are even a little decipherable if you listen attentively enough. These guys are all about sheer speed, just plowing through your tortured ears for your pleasure. Nothing remotely friendly here, and the spoken intro to "Propagate the Subservient" is even a little sickening, though very appropriate considering the band's name—you'll want that guy castrated. The surgical-precision guitar work and fast and thundering drums are witness to a finely tuned unit despite this being their first release; unsurprisingly, the guys all have previous experience in several other bands. A very promising debut EP of quality brutal death for those who like it well played without compromising the aural punishment. |
