Raw, putrid, muddy and lo-fi (-ish) come to mind when listening to the Necrorealism EP from Mortuary Slab. This is practically demo level, say a bit better quality than that, and that makes for a lot of its charm. The sound is a bit hollow and that gives it a bit of a dark, necro vibe. While there are some speedy moments where all hell literally breaks loose, it is the slower passages that have the most effect here. The slow, pounding drums are just crushing and the guitar sound is like being punched in the face. Add to all that some deep growls from beyond the grave. Good stuff unless you're obsessed with technicality and polished production. For everyone else, there's Mortuary Slab.
