Angel Sword have been kicking around for a while, playing their stripe of rock-and-rough, stripped down Heavy Metal. This is obviously trying hard to sound pretty raw, with that echo-chamber sound right out of the '80s. Vocalist "Jerry Razors" has a similarly raw and gravely sound, and he might be a sticking point for some. It's not that he's working a rough sound, it's that he is too often definitively off-key, usually when he is trying higher ranges. When he stays lower, he sounds a lot more sure of himself, and manages some good melodies. The riffs are hooky, some of the leads are really good, and the retro vibe is nailed dead-on. If you like '80s homage metal, then this is one you should check out. See below for more reviews... ↓ |
