Unholy mid-80s German thrash, Batman! Desolus may hail from the United States (from Washington, D.C., no less), but their old-school thrash sounds like a tribute to bands like Kreator and Sodom at their very beginnings. You know what that means: Savage, dark, raw, fast, chaotic thrash with screechy harsh vocals that will dig out all that earwax. There's no other way to put this: System Shock really sounds like something Kreator could have released in the mid-80s. It's that simple. So, if you dig that stuff, this album is a sure bet. Like, don't ask questions if you see it at the store, just grab it and pay whatever they're asking for. I only have one beef with it, the first 30 seconds of "Metal Fetishist" start will several phone rings (and, of course, the kind of ringtone from the phones of the era) and then some noises (don't know if the guy is waking up or what). That's just annoying and not all that useful. But hey, that's 30 seconds out of nearly 40 minutes, so I'll live. ;) Is System Shock original? Not one bit, but it's fucking good and that's what matters. |
