House by the Cemetary is a band unsurprisingly focused on horror, though you don't need to be into that stuff to appreciate the music herein. The Mortuary Hauntings is old-school death metal done right. Mostly mid-paced with the occasional speedsters, this is barebones, crunchy and punishing death metal with some razor-sharp riffs that leave something to remember once the album is over. The growls are decipherable, which certainly helps enjoy the horror thematic on offer. Overall this is surprisingly catchy and pretty much keeps you headbanging from beginning to end. I expected maybe more of a morbid atmosphere to come out of this, but that's relegated to a few songs. Nothing groundbreaking, but diverse enough to keep the interest up.
