The Lurking Corpses describe their music as "horror metal." That makes sense as far as the thematic goes, but as far as the music itself is concerned, this is actually fun and catchy heavy metal, some of it even sounding more rock or hard rock and also a little punkish at times. There are so many revival bands these days that it's nice to hear one that does its own thing and is not just copying traditional heavy metal from the '80s. The singer often sounds like a cross between Glenn Danzig and Elvis Presley (yes) and, on the more "rock" moments, I was really wondering if they hadn't just snuck it some Elvis in there. There are some songs that are a little creepier and dark and fit more with the "horror metal" thematic. If you're looking for some fun, catchy heavy metal that has its own personality, Lurking After Midnight (see what they did there?) is one of those rare commodities. |
