Interbellum is the second full-length from Cathubodua, a band giving us the Belgian take on symphonic metal, which is admittedly not far removed from the take you get from neighboring Germany and other European countries. Lovely female vocals, a few harsh vocal lines here and there, a touch of folk courtesy of violinist Arvid Vermote, harmonies stacked on melodies, etc., you know the drill even if you only follow symphonic metal casually. Everything is well played and performed, the songwriting is competent but not amazing, and the album as a whole is a good listen. I don't think this adds anything to the oeuvre, but it certainly takes nothing away, so it is a safe bet for fans of Nightwish, Xandria, Leaves' Eyes, etc. See below for more reviews... ↓ |
