Still going strong, Anvil have been very active in the past several years and here's another album two years after Impact is Imminent. With all the touring they do, I don't know where they find the time and the energy, but then again, they've been releasing albums nonstop for more than 40 years. One and Only is very much in the same vein as the past several albums and it's once again "Anvil being Anvil"—love 'em or hate 'em. Fun, upbeat, kind of silly lyrically, this is what Anvil do. There are a few good speedsters on this one that really get the party going, but also some mid-paced and more lighthearted and accessible songs—more so than on their couple of recent albums. But, basically, it's mostly the usual mix, Anvil-style. The band's albums are for the most part rather similar in style, almost like "the AC/DC of metal" (the old joke that AC/DC keep releasing the same album), but in this case there actually are several passages that have a very strong AC/DC vibe, so much so that a few bits here and there would feel right at home on one of the Australian hard rockers' albums. So, almost nothing new here. Anvil once again deliver crunchy, melodic, catchy and basic heavy metal pretty much devoid of gimmicks, old school without sounding too dated. You can't really go wrong with most Anvil albums anyway. Another strong album, if a little safe, from a band that's been around longer than many people reading this have been alive. Respect!
