This is not a band paying tribute to Nifelheim, but actually Nifelheim's Hellbutcher's new band (looks like Nifelheim is, sadly, done for). Lots of black/speed/thrash has been released in the past several years as this is one of the "hot" genres, but Hellbutcher certainly stands out for me. This is cleaner than Nifelheim's material, but it does share the insanity (and this is where I'll stop with any comparison between the two bands). This is fucking fast and downright crazy music; there's just no way one could survive a pit during a song like "Hordes of the Horned God," for example. Hellbutcher's vocals sound just as insane and it's pretty much impossible not to be sucked in by both the music and the vocals. Despite the craziness on display, there are still some melodic passages that I assume were thrown in there to give the listener a few seconds to breathe. This is savage, dirty, insane, heavy, crunchy blackened speed/thrash that pretty much sets the standard for the genre. It's an overcrowded genre and it has been for years, but Hellbutcher are out to show the others how to do it right. See below for more reviews... ↓ |
