Yes, Necrocene is another old-school death metal band, and Detrimental Paratomy is their debut EP, short and sweet at just under 18 minutes. There's a bit of a technical edge to Necrocene's music at times, but just enough to be "there" and not just for the sake of showing off, with the band rather focusing their weapons on an aggressive and surprisingly catchy delivery. The sound is pretty clean, and the EP comes off as a little polished as a result, but the razor-sharp guitars and pounding drums ensure that you still get your face smashed to the pavement as much as if this was raw and dirty stuff, and the growls are somewhat decipherable but will still gnaw at your ears. Wrap this all up in an angry, get-out-of-my-face atmosphere, and I for one wouldn't mind if Necrocene could deliver, I don't know, 40 minutes of this kind of stuff next time? Good stuff. |
