Tyran are a German band who have been gathering a bit of buzz, and now we finally have their debut in hand. This is another band who are treading that retro path, calling on the '80s sounds for their inspiration, and they definitely got the sound right. Tyran conjure a sound that is somewhere between Liege Lord and classic Scanner—heavy, somewhat complex riffs and high-pitched vocals all set off by an echo-laden recording job for that classic sound. This is a band that sometimes falls into the trap of repeating riffs too many times, and repeating choruses too much, but they do come up with some killer tunes on tracks like "Fists of Iron" and "Thrill of the Chase" that do not wear out their welcome. This is an album that shows a band with a lot of promise and room to grow. |
