In something of a developing trend in symphonic and power metal, Switzerland's Hartlight have released no fewer than eight singles (and an EP) prior to As Above, So Below, their debut full-length album. Stylistically similar to Edenbridge, Hartlight have a knack for writing symphonic metal that incorporates a bit of gothic down-tuned guitars (or perhaps 7-string instruments) with a cinematic vibe to the songwriting, yet allowing neither to subtract from their power metal roots. As Above, So Below doesn't break any molds but it is consistently heavy and melodic, the songwriting isn't revolutionary but is a cut or two above the average, and it is thoroughly entertaining. Fans of Edenbridge, Magica, and Amberian Dawn have a new band deserving of a place in their collections. See below for more reviews... ↓ |
