A new Rotting Christ album is always welcome here. Pro Xristou sees the band playing it a bit safe. The band's signature sound is intact. It's over the top, powerful, giving symphonic bands a run for their money by keeping things more basic while still having that ominous music filling the speakers. It's mostly slow to mid-paced, banking way more on atmosphere this time around and I found the songs kind of sound "the same" in that there isn't that much variation. The album feels like a long song. That's not necessarily a bad thing in this case as everything really gels together, but if you're looking for a varied album, this is not quite it. Sometimes the band breaks into a harsher, riffier, more black metal mode that brings you out of the trance induced by the majority of the songs here, but that's few and far between. This is not my favourite Rotting Christ album, but I still found it enjoyable, especially when I'm in the mood to just close my eyes and let the music take me somewhere else.
