It tells you a lot of what you need to know about this album that it is over 40 minutes with just two tracks—that lets you know exactly what kind of ambitious Black Metal you will find here. This is Cult of Erinyes's 5th album in a 15-year career, and this may be the one that breaks through for them. This band was always long on atmosphere but didn't seem to have the musical ideas to sustain their compositions, but this one is a lot stronger. You would expect 20-minute-long songs to drag, but they don't. Much like Blut Aus Nord—a band that these guys have definitely listened to—this is music that shifts and changes, always doing something different. The addition of multi-instrumentalist Olmo "Deha" Lipani back in 2017 has definitely given this outfit a shot in the arm, as he is one of the most versatile and prolific musicians in the scene (seriously, look at his list of active bands—38 at the time of this review in all kinds of subgenres). Metempsychosis deserves attention. See below for more reviews... ↓ |
