Gallows is the second full-length album from former Olympos Mons singer Ian Highhill, who handles everything from the vocals to all the instruments, recording, production, etc. The music is a continuation of the doomy hard rock/heavy metal Highhill gave us on his debut, Man in White, back in 2021, but the improvements in songwriting jump out. There are plenty of memorable tracks, from "Angels Shall Fall," a galloping, Dio-esque number, to catchy rockers "Living for Tonight" and "Dionysia" that have truly catchy choruses. Not every song is a winner but even the lesser lights aren't bad, simply not at the level of the best stuff on Gallows. Highhill started this solo journey with a vision, and on Gallows he's closing in on a sound that should make fans of '80s traditional metal happy, especially those that enjoy a nice streak of Dio-era Sabbath doom in the mix.
