With a name like Supermodel Taxidermy, this had to be either gory death metal or crossover thrash. This is the latter. Hailing right from the Alberta oil patch, the band put that to good use by pretty much playing it pedal to the metal, full speed ahead. I mean it: this is fast. You headbang to this stuff, your head will fly off. This is very much in the vein of '80s American crossover bands, sounding a little bit goofy while singing about serious—and not so serious—subjects. The vocal style is often a little too close to "spoken" for my taste, and I had a hard time with that even back in the '80s, but after several listens of At What Cost, it slowly grew on me, and I think it's the right fit for the band's music. At What Cost is a bit similar to other crossover thrash bands that have been popping up in the past 20 years or so, worshipping the old scene, but Supermodel Taxidermy also happen to sound a bit closer to the old sound than many of the other contenders. It sounds a little goofy, it's fun and catchy, it's crazy fast and just makes you want to throw yourself into walls.
