Back to Back is a split featuring Sad Iron, a band with a history dating back to the late '70s, and Burning, a more recent band, formed in 2013. Together, these two Dutch bands have put together a fun collection of pure traditional heavy metal that reminds me of the golden days. They both play a similar style, with Sad Iron's grittier vocals contrasting with Burning's smoother singing, but each embraces the heavier, faster music that arose in response to the commercial, "hair" metal that was becoming more and more popular as the '80s progressed. Killer riffs and catchy choruses can be found among both bands' contributions to Back to Back, such as Sad Iron's delightfully cheesy "Metal Cathedral" and Burning's speedy "Pick Your Fight," and there isn't really a bad song in the bunch. If you enjoy the underground direction '80s metal was taken in by bands like Sword and Jag Panzer, you're sure to like Back to Back.
