By now Stray Gods are basically the Greek Iron Maiden. Anyone who likes Maiden should check these guys out immediately. I really liked Storm the Walls, the band's debut, and this sophomore effort still finds the band doing Maiden better than Maiden these days. Once again they hover more in the Seventh Son of a Seventh Son and post-reunion style than the very early Maiden catalogue, more so than on their debut. The singer still sounds like Bruce, so much so that most people might think it's Bruce singing; it's that simple. Very melodic and powerful, the music here is Maidenesque alright, but just like on the debut, the band have a thing of their own going and more than once I found myself thinking, "yeah, it's a Maiden vibe but Maiden wouldn't have done this or that." That's a positive comment, in case that wasn't clear. ;) I like how, unlike Maiden since Brave New World, Stray Gods don't write songs that overstay their welcome nor have endlessly repeating lyrics; that was true on their debut and it's still true here. I don't like this album as much as Storm the Walls, which kind of rocked harder, but that doesn't make Olympus any less listenable. People looking for something inspired by a mix of Seventh Son of a Seventh Son and Brave New World should definitely check this out.
