Limbonic Art hit a definite high with Legacy of Evil in 2007, but then Morfeus left and the albums since then have not been nearly as good, though I don't know for sure if those things are connected. Part of it is definitely that the sound has scaled way back on the crazy, over-the-top keyboards that used to be a hallmark of this band, and that has forced the songs to stand on their composition alone, which is not really up to the job. Like their last few albums, Opus Demoniacal is just kind of bland, and that's despite the extremely busy songwriting and a lot of speed. It's just overloaded, and not in a way that is fun, it just kind of grinds you down without any really good melodies or riffs to attach to. If you liked stuff like Phantasmagoria, then this is more of the same, but I remember when this band could do much better. See below for more reviews... ↓ |
