The music on Diamond Falcon's third album, Gates of Hell, is in the traditional metal revival vein, all clear vocals, twin guitars, etc. Songs like "Never Give Up" and "The Wind in My Back" have an early Iron Maiden bounce thanks to the galloping bass and twin leads while the title track leans into epic territory a bit harder. I can also hear similarities with newer acts like Night Demon and High Spirits though Diamond Falcon have developed their own style to some degree. The songwriting is good, and it sounds like the band hit what they were aiming for. Their riffs might not be immediately recognizable, but Gates of Hell feels like an album that needs a little time to grow, so there is definite upside to repeated listens. If you are into traditional metal, especially metal with an epic bent, Diamond Falcon is worth checking out. |
